Hey everyone!
This is Keka from Mashup Band! Thought I’d tell y’all a bit about myself so you can get to know me better.

I was born in a city called São Vicente (aka St. Vincent). Fun fact: it’s the oldest city in Brazil, the first place where Portuguese colonizers stepped foot way back in 1500!
These days, I live in São Paulo, which is basically the biggest city in Brazil and South America, with over 11 million people.

I’ve been an artist my whole life. Even in my earliest memories, I was dancing, singing, and yeah, maybe being a little annoying to the people around me. I started my dance journey when I was nine, getting into ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, and even Irish tap. My dream was to go pro, and eventually, I made it!

Along the way, I took acting classes too. Music was always in the mix, and while I was working as a dancer in São Paulo, I got invited to audition for Cabaret, the musical theater show from Broadway, produced in Brazil. This was back in 2011, and it was my shot to show off my dance, acting, and singing skills. The “break a leg” thing must have worked, ‘cause I got in! That’s how my musical theater journey kicked off.

Fast forward to 2016 I met my Lucas during a play called We Will Rock You, and we totally hit it off. At the time, he and Julian were starting up a band and asked me to join them. And that’s how Mashup Band came to be.

The band took off, and we started playing gigs several days a week. That’s when I decided to step away from musical theater to become a full-time singer. Zero regrets! Being in Mashup gives me so much freedom to be myself, to sing songs I love, crack jokes, mess around with Denis’s voice, and just have a blast. I’m seriously living my dream, especially ‘cause I get to do it with people I love. Our little band fam means everything to me.

So, a question I get all the time is: What do you like to do when you’re not singing?
Honestly, I LOVE cooking! Experimenting with recipes is one of my favorite things, and I’m always on the lookout for something tasty to make. Another thing, I’m obsessed with supermarkets. Every place I go around the world, I HAVE to hit up a local supermarket. Checking out local products and food is a thrill for me.

And here’s some fun facts about me:

  1. My first pro job was dancing on a Pullmantur cruise ship when I was 17.

  2. I’m hooked on coffee and chocolate, especially during PMS.

  3. I’ve got professional hairstyling skills, so I’m the one who cuts the boys’ hair!

  4. I started a degree in Physical Therapy but didn’t have time to finish it.

  5. During COVID, I was running a sweet popcorn business in Brazil. Popcorn is life, and I came up with some killer recipes.

So there you go! Now you know a little more about me, not just what you see on stage.

Thanks so much for all the love and support you give me.

I love seeing you all at our shows!

Much love,
Keka
